Up-close and personal live bat encounter!

Join NPR’s Peter Sagal and Cards Against Humanity’s Max Temkin for a live bat encounter with conservation biologist and TV personality Rob Mies!

Rob is the Founder and Executive Director of the Organization for Bat Conservation and has appeared on many television shows including The Tonight Show, The Ellen Degeneres Show, The Today Show, Live with Regis and Kelly, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, and Martha Stewart.

He’ll speak with us about the benefits of bats, why we need to conserve them, and what we can do to help these unique mammals.

You will also have an up close and personal encounter a Big Brown bat from North America and hear its high-pitched echolocation with a “bat detector,” meet fruit bats from Africa and Asia, and finally, come face-to-face with the largest bat in the world, a gigantic Flying Fox bat from Malaysia. This beautiful bat has nearly a 6-foot wingspan!

Bats are critical to our economy and the environment, consuming large amounts of crop-damaging insects like beetles and moths, pollinating plants like agave that we make into tequila, and spreading seeds of tropical trees like figs and dates. Without bats, ecosystems would drastically change.

You won’t want to miss this amazing chance to party with the bats and learn how you can get involved with the Save the Bats campaign.

This is a free event, but please consider donating to the Save the Bats campaign: https://donate.batconservation.org/checkout/donation?eid=56095
