What is the purpose of advertising? Can it move beyond primarily selling stuff? Do you ever find yourself justifying your job?
Beers for Good is a meet-up for people in advertising who are interested in making a positive difference together. On the second Tuesday of every month, we invite someone to share their experience of making a positive change in their life. We intend to share questions, challenges and discuss ways we can use our creative skills for good.
This month, we’ve invited Emma Ashru Jones to share her story. Emma began her career on the WPP Fellowship Graduate program, working at agencies such as JWT, The Futures Company and Brand Union, and in cities such as London, New York, Shanghai and Sao Paulo. With every new brief, Emma asked clients that classic question – ‘so, what would success look like for you?’ – and she found an answer. But when Emma asked herself – ‘what does success look like to me?’ – she found more questions. Is success selling more toilet paper? Is it a big pitch win? Is it winning an award? Or is it something else entirely? We’re looking forward to exploring these questions at Beers for Good.
As part of her enquiry, Emma created an opportunity to take a secondment from WPP and she now works at Collectively – a start-up that wants to make sustainable living the new normal, by bringing together big brands and young people. We’ll hear Emma’s story and questions and then, in Beers for Good-style, we’ll discuss how those questions apply to ourselves.
