Kickstarter Presents: How to Journalism in a Scary World if you don’t have a Fancy Grant

location 1917 N Elston Ave | 7 PM-9 PM Friday 03 April 2015 (CDT)

The current media landscape is painted as a bleak place void of jobs, money or hope for journalists. Whether you’re aspiring or established, it seems harder than ever to get the funds you need for your investigative story, niche publication or new platform if you don’t have a boatload of cash (or a grant).

The good news is that it’s not all gloom and doom. Join Kickstarter for a conversation about how writers, publishers and technologists have used the platform to launch their journalism projects into the world. You’ll learn how to structure a journalism campaign, what kind of rewards work best, and how to spread the word about your project, increase your audience and build a community.

The presentation will be followed by quick talks on new journalism projects in Chicago and how they're being funded.

When: Friday April 3rd at 7:00pm

Where: The Cards Against Humanity Theater (1917 N. Elston, Chicago, Il 60642)

Parking: There’s free street parking on Homer, bicycle parking indoors.

RSVP: Tickets are limited, so you and your guests must RSVP.

Drinks & Mixer: We'll have some snacks and drinks after talks, and fire up the Killer Queen cabinets.
