Peter Sagal and Max Temkin invite you to an exclusive, one-time-only game of The Machine Learning President, a collaborative role-playing scenario, where we’ll play through the political and technological dynamics of the 2020 and 2024 elections with some of the most strategic minds in Chicago.
You might have seen this wild New Yorker story by Jane Mayer about a game simulating information warfare and other abuses of the system in a presidential election. Well, we met the creators and they're coming to the Cards Against Humanity office next week to run the game for 40 people in Chicago.
Instead of becoming Colonel Mustard or Mrs. Peacock each player takes on the role of various campaigns, special interests and factions, and run through a full election cycle. Among the possible roles are Mike Pence, Elizabeth Warren, Black Lives Matter, Russia, Y Combinator, Tom Steyer, Wall Street, Evangelicals, the Koch Network, and Robert Mercer. A key part of the game is how money and influence play into getting out a message and how technology and different potential alliances may factor into all of this.
Peter and I hope to bring together game designers, political organizers, public officials, and our friends from the comedy and theater world to participate in a mock election cycle and discuss the game afterwards.
When: Tuesday October 16th from 5:30pm to 9pm
Where: The Cards Against Humanity Theater (1917 N. Elston)
What: We'll meet at 5:30 for dinner (with V/GF options), learn the game at 6pm, and play from 6 to 9. The designers will be there to run it for us.
RSVP: RSVP in advance is required as we have exactly 40 spots. Please check with Peter or myself before inviting guests.
Parking: There is ample street parking outside our building on Homer.
