Making beautiful trouble

location Turl Street Kitchen | 8 AM-9 AM Thursday 14 April 2016 (BST)

Design and art can have a powerful role in communicating all kinds of messages for change and disruptive effect. That is why so many designers become co-opted by the advertising industry. Iconic imagery has always played a key role in the fight against injustices. Art, design and interventions from groups like Adbusters, Brandalism and Occupy design have shown how creativity can be used to reframe a debate, convey a message or awaken consciousness. In this session we will hear about some inspiring examples and then role ourselves and get making. Grappling with a particular local issue we will design creative responses and ways of communicating message that challenge the consensus. There will be an optimal act of disobedience the following day to implement these designs and messages in places around the city before the final session. Organised and facilitated by Transition by Design.
