Puerto Rico and Paris: Francisco Oller's Hybrid Avant-Garde
The Blanton is closed on Mondays, but not for you crazy kids out there on the World Wide Web. This Monday, Beth Shook, Curatorial Associate and Managing Curator of “Impressionism and the Caribbean,” will offer you a 20-minute glimpse into how artist Francisco Oller borrowed techniques from early European modernism to depict local Puerto Rican subjects. It’s going to be tight.
You might be asking yourself, “but how can I see this tour? Didn’t you just say that the Blanton is closed on Mondays? Where is that large automobile?” Yes, we did say that, and we don’t think we like your tone, frankly. Never fear, we’ve got you covered. You can tune in to the talk using Periscope, the live-streaming app beloved by tech journalists and self-involved bloggers everywhere. You’ll be able to watch the tour from the comfort of your desktop, mobile phone, or tablet. Do you need help getting going with Periscope? Try going here for starters.
Now you’re probably asking yourself, “that’s all well and good, but how will I get to this tour when the time comes? This is so confusing.” Again with the questions. That’s why we’ve created this nice little RSVP page. Click the “are you attending?” button above, and 10 minutes before the tour starts on Monday, we’ll send you an e-mail with instructions and a URL. Won’t that be convenient? The answer is yes. See you on Monday!
