Open Knowledge Edinburgh meet-up #20

location CodeBase | 5:30 PM-8:30 PM Thursday 05 May 2016 (BST)

Open Knowledge Meet-ups are friendly and informal evenings for people to get together to share and argue all areas of openness. Come and join discussions around open knowledge and open data – from politics and philosophy to practicalities of theory and practice. Information Open Knowledge Scotland and about some of our past meet-ups can be found at

Speakers confirmed so far:

  • Pippa Gardner (Urban Tide): Welcome
  • Sally Kerr (CEC): Edinburgh's Open Data Portal
  • Richard Rodger (MESH): Mapping Edinburgh
  • Leah Lockhart (Urban Tide): Approaching citizen engagement

The main theme of this meet-up is how to collect, curate and publish open data that means something to citizens in Edinburgh. Citizen-centred data is meaningful if it enables change. This could be change in the decisions made by individuals, or change that is brought about as a result of collective actions. As well as the usual lightning talks, we want the event to stimulate discussion and planning on ways to connect open data with individuals, communities and civic organisations in Edinburgh.
