#ProjectWakata: towards a digital tool for supporting newcomers

location Centre for Social Innovation | 4 PM-6 PM Tuesday 19 January 2016 (EST)

A conversation about using technology to support the refugee resettlement

Since the Trudeau government announced its plans to support the resettlement of 20,000 Syrian refugees, we have witnessed a groundswell of support from our community. Whether it be a pot of soup, translation services, clothing and furniture donations, child-minding or job support services, everyone wants to know how they can lend a hand.

How might we create a hub to connect refugee families, frontline workers, sponsors, associations, and citizens with the resources available? As lovers of technology for civic good, we want to lend our resources to help.

Join us on January 19th to bring together stakeholders and leverage the civic tech community in Toronto to tackle this challenge.

This is a joint collaboration by The Canadian Arab Institute, the Centre for Social Innovation, Civic Tech Toronto, Architech, Studio Y and YOU.

We began this conversation, but we really need input from all the amazing folks dedicating their time, resources and good will towards helping Syrian refugees settle in as new Canadians. We don’t want to duplicate efforts and would love to lend some digital support to build on efforts that already exist.
