This month we are going to run a data hacking session using the open data released by Newcastle City Council. We will start with an introduction to pandas (the Python Data Analysis Library) and run several examples of basic data operations on the payments dataset. We follow-up with useful data transformation tricks and pretty visualisations with Seaborn (a statistical data visualization library based on matplotlib) and Folium (visualisation of interactive maps based on Leaflet.js). We will finish with a freestyle data hacking session, in which we will try to put what we learned into practice.
For best experience, please bring you own laptop with IPython, pandas, Seaborn and Folium installed.
pip install seaborn
pip install pandas
pip install folium
But if installation is a problem come along and we can help.
Pizza will be courtesy of our kind sponsors Sharpe Recruitment (@sharperecruit) and Pebble (@mypebble) - get there early to get a slice! And we once again will be hosted by the ace folks at Campus North (@campusnorthuk).
Campus North is down the hill from the Body Zone Gym and the Bunker Coffee & Kitchen on the corner of Carliol Square. Please ring the doorbell, or tweet @PythonNorthEast, to get let in.
Hope to see you there and please spread the word.
The meetup requires a minimum of 15 signed up to proceed.
