Hi all, We’re doing a open, loosely organized, coffee induced, nerd-driven ‘Hackathon’ on Wednesday 30th of December - what better way to end of 2015, than pumping out some code and slugging down some Redbull’s? PS: You don’t have to commit to the whole day, but if you can, you will forever be known as a #Siliconcoast JEDI MASTER - we’ll be handing out virtual JEDI point to the rest.
Here’s the pitch:
The problem: We know there is a LOT of talented people on the sunshine coast with rare competences and skillsets (many of which who’d be willing to mentor or coach) - but we have no really effective way of searching for them, nor can we see the gaps, or needed skills to help complement the digital competence pool on the Coast.
The solution: We want to build a simple website where people can sign up and submit their name, skillsets and choose whether or not they’d be willing to opt-in for pro-bono coaching or mentoring (of other startups). We’ll try to minimize the amount of manual punch-in, so f.ex sign in with LinkedIn may be an option. The first version will not include a front-end - at this stage we just want to collect data. Down the line we will build a website where anyone in the startup ecosystem space can search for skills or competence. Sort of like this: www.500.co/mentor. We want to make that data open and free for those who need it.
What do we need? Anyone can join the Hackathon - if you have tech-skills that is a definite plus, particularly: database, web-development, back-end, front-end, HTML, CSS, PHP +++ skills. Designers are welcome to help form an idea of what the final version could look like.
What’s the layout? High-level plan is as follows: Morning: meet & greet, analyse on-site skills and people’s motivation, create a hour-by-hour schedule and desired outcomes. Different teams are created if needed. Afternoon: GET TO WORK (and drink coffee…and beer? yes. definitely beer..) Evening: Finalize first version. Reflect on work and progress and next steps. Teams present demo’s, concept and mock-ups.
What to bring? Laptop, phone’s, wires, chargers, headsets, coke, redbull, coffee, lunch, dinner, humor, awesomeness - that should do it.
What to expect? This is a social, pro-bono, learning, “do it because it’s fun and because it’s helping the community” kind of event. The work we do this day will potentially help hundreds of aspiring entrepreneurs get one step closer to launch a startup.
What else? Hmm - everything is potentially subject to change with notice :)
Hope to see you there! Tag a tech-friend :-)
