There's A Map For That

location ODI Leeds | 11 AM-3 PM Saturday 07 March 2020 (BST)

Drop-in session all about open data & mapping.

Seeing data on a map has a lot of visual clout and is a good way to engage a variety of people - a map is instantly recognisable and opens up discourse about personal experiences too. So, how do you make a map with data?

For Open Data Day on 7 March 2020, we are hosting an 'open data and mapping surgery' where we will show you how to use some useful online tools and get you closer to adding data to a map! All experience levels are welcome, though we would recommend basic understanding of using the web. This is a 'surgery' format so you can come for the whole session or drop-in as you need to. Please feel free to bring some data or some specific questions with you.

We will demonstrate some of ODI Leeds' open mapping projects, such as the 'tree logger', and we will cover what it means to be truly 'open' in terms of making maps that are shareable. Our aim is to give you some confidence and some new skills to give data mapping a go, whatever your interests. You could map your favourite parks, important moments in your life, or you could use your new-found skills to help document wildlife or highlight the worst areas for litter.

Join us on 7 March 2020 11am - 3pm and celebrate Open Data Day. Have fun, find out more about us and open data, and leave with some new knowledge!

Practical info Tea/Coffee will be available throughout.

This is not a workshop, so laptops and other material will NOT be provided. We are happy to demonstrate things on our laptops but if you would like to work with your own data/maps during this session, please bring a laptop with you.

Open Data Day is a Saturday, which is why we are using a 'drop-in' format. You can pop in for 10 mins, ask some questions and then go, or you can come for a few hours to get stuck in to a specific challenge you have. The ODI Leeds team are using their Saturday to host this session, so please be respectful of their time.
